Fairview Farm Fridays at Root Cause Farm | Free Family Events Near Asheville NC

The Best FREE Family Event Near Asheville and Fairview: Fairview Farm Fridays, Summer 2026.

I’m going to be honest with you: I didn’t know what to expect the first time I showed up.

I knew it was going to be outside at Root Cause Farm. I knew there’d be music and food. But what I didn’t expect was to look around at over a hundred people (neighbors, kids, local vendors, families sitting in the grass) and just feel it. That thing that’s hard to put into words. Like Fairview exhaled.

That’s what Fairview Farm Fridays is. And I want you to come

What Is this FREE Family Event Near Asheville and Fairview all about?

Every last Friday of the month, Root Cause Farm opens up from 5 to 7 pm and the community shows up. There’s live local music, a food truck, Hilltop Ice Cream, rotating local vendors, and space for community nonprofits to connect with the people they serve.

No tickets. No dress code. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and just come as you are.

What makes it special isn’t any one thing on that list. It’s all of it together. It feels like a front porch that belongs to the whole community.

If you’re looking for something free to do with your family near Asheville this summer, this is it.

Where Is Root Cause Farm, and Why Does This Place Matter?

Root Cause Farm is at 26 Joe Jenkins Rd in Fairview, NC, just minutes from downtown Fairview and a short drive from Asheville and Black Mountain. And if you’ve never been, I want you to understand what this place actually is before you show up.

Sedona Lewis, FUNDRAISING AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, said it best on opening night: ” Root Cause is a nonprofit farm that grows food for people in our community experiencing food insecurity.”  Last year alone, they grew over 14,000 pounds of produce. That’s not a small operation. That’s a community feeding itself.

She also said something that stuck with me: they exist because of this community. Not in spite of its challenges, not as a response to a crisis. Because of the people who keep showing up, keep giving, and keep believing that Fairview takes care of its own.

And their land sits right next to SFN. We are literally neighbors. So when this series started, getting involved wasn’t a hard decision. It felt like the only right thing to do.

Why Was This Event Created? The Story Behind Fairview Farm Fridays

This  FREE Family Event Near Asheville and Fairview was born out of something real. And Cory Wall of Cory Wall Real Estate, said it herself on the night it all started:

“After Hurricane Helene, our community went through something none of us will ever forget. We lost people. We lost homes. It was intense in a way that’s hard to put into words. But what came out of it, the closeness, the way neighbors showed up for neighbors, the way Fairview held itself together, that was something none of us wanted to let go of.”

Cory didn’t want it to fade either. So she created a space to keep it alive. Not out of grief, not as a memorial to what we went through, but as a celebration of who we are. A reason to keep gathering. A reason to keep showing up for each other.

Cory put it simply: “we always have each other.”

Fairview Farm Fridays is what that looks like in practice. Every last Friday of the month, on the land of a farm that feeds our neighbors, with music playing and kids running around and people actually talking to each other. That’s Cory’s vision. And watching it come to life, I understood exactly what she meant from the very first night.

What Was the First Fairview Farm Fridays Actually Like?

It was one of those evenings I think about when things feel heavy.

Over a hundred people came out. The vendors were busy. Kids were running around. People were actually talking to each other. Not just standing next to each other. Someone was dancing near the stage. A group of moms were laughing about something I wish I’d caught. Music was playing in the background over all of it.

This event is about more than music or vendors. It’s about community, relationships, and creating something that makes Fairview feel even more like home. And it’s becoming exactly that. Watch this Instagram video reel.

Live Local Music Every Month: What Kind of Acts Can You Expect?

Oh, this part is so good.

The music is coordinated by Cory, and she pulls entirely from the rich local talent pool right here in Fairview and the greater Asheville area. We’re talking real, live, local artists, the kind you want to tell your friends about.

In March, the lineup included the Old Charlotte Highwaymen, playing old-time Appalachian music from a Fairview-based musical family led by John Templeton, featuring local school-aged talent. They were followed by Root Diggers Union, a lively rock and Americana party band featuring Fairview’s own Adam Sacora of The Late Shifters. The crowd loved every minute of it.

Every month brings something new. One Friday it’s Bluegrass. The next it might be Klezmer or American Roots. What stays the same is that it’s live, it’s local, and the kids will inevitably end up on the stage whether you planned for that or not. I say that from experience.

Community Nonprofits You’ll Find at this FREE Family Event Near Asheville and Fairview this  Summer 2026.

One of the things that makes this event different from a typical outdoor market is the nonprofits. Every month, local organizations show up to connect with the community, share what they’re doing, and create opportunities for people to get involved. These aren’t just names on a flyer. They’re doing real work right here in our backyard.

Garren Creek Foundation exists to strengthen and support the local community through connection, generosity, and service. Their focus is on meeting real needs, whether through outreach, support initiatives, or community involvement, helping ensure that individuals and families in our area feel seen, supported, and cared for.

Fairview Strong was created out of a desire to show up for our community in times of need. Rooted in compassion and action, their mission is to support local families, provide resources, and bring people together through both hardship and healing. They exist to remind us that no one in Fairview has to walk through life alone.

The Village at Covenant Community Church was created to foster belonging, faith, and meaningful relationships within the community. Their heart is to provide a place where people can find support, encouragement, and connection, serving others with intention and helping build a stronger, more unified Fairview.

Why Specialized Fitness & Nutrition Is a Monthly Sponsor of Fairview Farm Fridays

Because health and community are the same thing to me. I don’t know how to separate them.

I grew up in Fairview. This is my home. And after Helene, a lot of families and businesses here took hits that they’re still recovering from. We were fortunate. SFN came through it still standing, still growing, and when that’s true, I believe you have a responsibility to give back to the community that supported you.

Root Cause Farm’s land is right next to our building, so this partnership feels completely natural. I believe deeply in supporting positive community engagement and in giving back to help decrease the number of families affected by food insecurity. When you have the ability to give back, that is exactly what you should do.

Sponsoring this event is one way I live that out.
